On Monday 12th of September , the Bagno Giulia had the pleasure of hosting the end-of-summer aperitif with the President of the province, Stefano Vitali.
The occasion was a pleasant one, and a wonderful opportunity to weigh up the end-of-summer budget, which this year appeared in a new guise, from use of low-impact and recycled materials, manufacturing products according to traditional architectural lines and applying the principles of bioclimatic architecture and green building, sustainability, energy conservation, breaking down architectural barriers, enhancing and upgrading the landscape, privileging visibility and angles. Consequently, the figures for summer 2011 were very positive.
President Vitali praised the ability, willingness and commitment to this project, which will change the look of the beach and revolutionise the experience offered to clients, which now takes into account not just quality and beauty, but also respect for the environment and environmental conservation, which is effective from every angle. The hard work of the Giovanardi family in undertaking and investing with ethics and courage, even in an uncertain economic time, is laudable. The President also mentioned that ‘team building’ would be the key to true renewal for the whole Riviera.
“The visit of President Vitali’, said Matteo Giovanardi, ‘was one of the greatest rewards of this summer, which has been so wonderful and so memorable. I really wanted him to see my environmentally friendly and sustainable beach, which is accessible to all, and designed not only for fun but also for solidarity and equality – not only in his institutional role but also as a man whose moral values I admire greatly and for his proximity to the causes that have driven my work in recent years. I am closing the season on a definite high note!”
A Riccione local has been acknowledged as being among the top Italian contenders, passionate about ecological sustainability.
The Bagno Giulia 85 in Riccione was shortlisted among the five finalists for the Eco Awards and the City Giovanni Spadolini, in the ‘Private Sector Ethical Incentive’ category.
On Saturday, November 12th in Florence, as part of the Education for Sustainable Development week, sponsored by the Italian National Commission for UNESCO, was the bestowal of the prestigious Eco Awards and the City Giovanni Spadolini, and among the main contenders of the day was a man from Riccione.
This finalist was Matteo Giovanardi, the owner of Bagno Giulia 85, with his project, “Eco-friendly and accessible beach’. Giovanardi was one of five finalists out of 1500 applications received by the competition organisers.
The Eco Awards and the City is an award dedicated to the memory of Giovanni Spadolini, and this year’s title is “Beyond Kyoto: Common plans and goals”. It is aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and conservation.
The award consists of the Medal Spadolini, which was created by the sculptor Riccardo Corsero. Particular institutional awards of recognition are also granted to municipalities, mountain communities, unions of municipalities, consortia of municipalities, as well as farmers, wineries and private businesses, selected as vehicles of change in our society, striving towards a new way of life, in which people will be more and more conscious of making eco-friendly choices.
The Bagno Giulia, which was the first entirely accessible and ecologically sustainable resort in Europe, made its final transformation, in image and substance, in the summer season of 2011.
The construction work, overseen by architect Loris Casali, was completed with the use of materials whose environmental impact is low, as well as many recycled materials. The structures have been designed following simple architectural tradition and applying the principles of bioclimatic architecture and green building, as well as sustainability and energy saving through thermal, solar and light sources. The breaking down of architectural barriers, enhancement and remaking of the landscape have been orchestrated with a general compositional choice, working in favour of visibility, angles and perspective.
